The Brief

Northwave were approached by Quay Movement to help transform a former estate agents into a new movement studio for back and body rehabilitation and training.

Like most commercial retail units, the electrical installation had been adapted over many years and after an initial inspection and discussion over the design ideas, we decided a full rewire would be the most cost effective and safe solution.

Lighting Design

With such a unique design for the walls and floors, we decided early on that the suspended tile ceiling and flourescent lights needed to go.

Due to the relatively low ceiling and need to move weights and equipment around, pendant lighting wasn't a safe option and downligts/LED battens just felt too clinical.

So we developed our own solution creating large lighting panels, sourcing industrial bayonet fittings and RGBW LED tape. This is all controlled centrally to adjust colour, brightness and zoning on the panels.

This complements the space well and also allows the ambience of the room to be changed instantly depending on whether the Quay movement are running a Zoom class, group session or more intimate one to one rehabilitation session.

Networking

With the COVID-19 global pandemic still impacting businesses, Quay Movement had transferred many of their classes online. Part of the requirements of this installation was to ensure internet speeds were adequate for running classes from the new space.

We installed structured networking, wifi and AV to allow this to happen.
